Key Stage 2 Curriculum
In Key Stage 2, we continue to build on the skills and confidence developed in Key Stage 1, whilst preparing children for the next stage of their education. We place a strong emphasis on developing independence, resilience and a love of learning, encouraging children to challenge themselves and take pride in all they achieve.
English and mathematics remain at the heart of the curriculum, helping children to develop the skills they need for life beyond primary school. Children are encouraged to think for themselves, solve problems, ask questions and explain their ideas, becoming increasingly confident learners as they move through the school.
Science, history, geography, art, design technology, computing, music, French, RE and PSHE are taught through exciting topics and engaging lessons designed to spark curiosity and deepen understanding. Wherever possible, learning is brought to life through practical activities, visitors to school, educational visits and outdoor learning opportunities. Children may find themselves exploring habitats at Nell Bank, spending a week on residential at Herd Farm, taking part in Muddy Puddle Days, or tackling challenges during enrichment weeks and themed curriculum days. These memorable experiences help children develop new skills, work as part of a team and create lasting memories.
Physical Education is an important part of school life, helping children to develop teamwork, determination and healthy lifestyles. We encourage all children to take part in a wide range of sporting activities and competitions and to enjoy being active.
Music, drama and the creative arts continue to enrich our curriculum, providing opportunities for children to perform, create and express themselves. Whether singing, learning an instrument, performing in productions or showcasing their work, our children never fail to impress us with their enthusiasm, confidence and talents.
Above all, we want our children to leave Key Stage 2 as resilient, respectful, inspired and curious learners, ready for the opportunities and challenges that await them at secondary school and beyond
